Through a grant from the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, the Military and Community Relations Office (MACRO) was established April 1, 2024, under the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT).
In January 2024, the U.S. Navy cleared over 33,850 square feet of invasive octocorals from Pearl Harbor, but these fast-spreading corals have returned, threatening the delicate balance of the local marine ecosystem.
