Laurie Moore​

Executive Director, Military and Community Relations Office

Laurie Moore is the Executive Director of the State of Hawai‘i’s Military and Community Relations Office, part of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism. In her role, she focuses on fostering partnerships between state and county governments, community partners, and Department of Defense that ultimately enrich the community, all the while addressing joint issues that impact infrastructure, the economy, and natural resources.

Laurie has a proven track record of impactful community engagement and previously served as the Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA Hawai‘i, overseeing the development and execution of all programs and services at branch locations at Joint Base Pearl Harbor – Hickam, Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i, and United States Army Schofield Barracks/Wheeler Army Airfield. Laurie has also directed the Palmyra Program, a collaboration of premiere research institutions and federal agencies on Palmyra Atoll. Previously, she led the Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund, working closely with the United States Navy and National Park Service on the funding, building, and marketing of the renovated Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Laurie previously served as a deputy chief of staff for a member of congress and has managed several re-election campaigns at both the state and federal levels.

Laurie graduated from the University of California, Irvine and attended George Washington University for graduate work in the field of public administration. She is trained and certified through the Academy of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and has had the pleasure of providing pro-bono tutoring for a host of dyslexic students. Laurie serves on the Executive Committee for the Military Affairs Council and the Navy Closure Task Force Information Sharing Forum and has served on the boards of the Hawai‘i International Dyslexia Association and the Nisei Veterans Legacy Center.

Laurie and her husband, a retired service member, are the owners of Kimo’s Surf Hut. Together, they cherish their role as parents to three remarkable adults.
