John J. Greene

Deputy Director, Military Affairs and Community Relations Office

John J. Greene serves as the Deputy Director of the Military Affairs and Community Relations Office (MACRO), where he leads initiatives that bridge Hawaii’s military and civilian sectors through strategic engagement, education, and collaborative efforts. With over three decades of experience in defense industry engagement and business development, Greene is dedicated to fostering partnerships that strengthen community ties and advance economic growth in Hawai‘i.

Prior to joining MACRO, Greene served as a Defense Industry Specialist at the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT), where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Hawai‘i Defense Alliance. Formed in 2021, this collaborative initiative brought together government, industry, community partners, and Department of Defense (DoD) representatives to increase local business participation in Hawai‘i’s defense economy and support workforce development.

A Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, Greene has served in multiple leadership assignments, including as N4 (Supply and Logistics Department) for Commander Submarine Force Pacific, overseeing logistics efforts for Pacific-based submarines. His extensive service includes contributions to counter-narcotics missions in Southeast Asia and support roles with Special Operations Command Pacific, Fleet Logistics Center Pearl Harbor, and other units. Greene’s deployments have included mobilizations for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Covid-19 Contingency Response.

His military honors include the Joint Service Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and numerous other individual and unit commendations.
